Los Al Set to Pick Interim City Manager

They know who they want, and now it’s just a matter of making it official.

The Los Alamitos City Council will vote on an interim city manager tonight to fill in for outgoing City Manager Angie Avery, whose last day is March 1.

According to a staff report, members of the City Council have selected Gregory D. Korduner, a retired city manager who worked for about 30 years in City Manager Huntington Park, El Monte and South El Monte, as their top pick.

While councilmembers and staff have met with Korduner and expressed their approval, the item requires an official vote. As part of the city’s consent calendar item, the decision will take place without discussion unless a member of the staff, council or audience calls pulls the item.  

If approved, Korduner would work 40 hours a week at about $75 an hour starting March 2.  According to the terms of the agreement, Korduner or the city could end the agreement by giving written notice.

Avery said city staff expect to have a full-time successor in place before the year-long agreement ends.  

The council’s committee on hiring an interim city manager interviewed three candidates on the Feb. 11. The whole council met with Korduner Feb. 14 and gave their approval.
