LOS ALAMITOS, CA — The Los Alamitos Race Course has offered to run races at their track during the closure at Santa Anita Park, Patch has learned. This week, owner Ed Allred presented his offer to the California Horse Racing Board as a "contingency plan."

"We have a contingency plan with (CHRB) chairman Chuck Winner," Allred told Bloodhorse.com. "If it's determined—and I don't want to make it seem like we're salivating or hoping this is going to happen—after (consultant) Dennis Moore's (analysis) that racing at Santa Anita will continue to be suspended, we're prepared to jump in and do what's necessary. But that all can't start until we apply for a license."

Los Alamitos would be prepared for Thoroughbred racing "as soon as needed," Bloodhorse.com reported. Currently, Los Alamitos track runs night races with Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds Friday through Sunday, year-round, and eight weeks of Thoroughbred racing during the day.

Allred told Bloodhorse that many trainers were moving horses to Los Alamitos, and that option was available for horses to ship in, train, cool out and return to Santa Anita.
