A Compton man who tried to sell a fake diamond to undercover officers in Seal Beach was sentenced to jail Friday.

SANTA ANA, CA — A 61-year-old Compton man was sentenced Friday to eight months in jail for trying to sell a fake diamond for $9,500 in Seal Beach.
Earl Howard pleaded guilty to attempted grand theft July 26.
Seal Beach police Sgt. Michael Henderson said Howard posted an advertisement for the "diamond" he claimed was authentic and valued at $29,000. The company Howard contacted to run the ad called police, who set up an undercover sting, posing as interested buyers, Henderson said.
