More OC Protests Saturday Despite Heat, Rising Virus Cases
Southland demonstrators will take to the streets again Saturday to protest racism, the deaths of Andres Guardado and George Floyd, and more.
ORANGE COUNTY, CA ā More than a dozen demonstrations against systemic racism and police brutality are scheduled Saturday despite a National Weather Service forecast of triple-digit temperatures in some parts of the Southland and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The nationwide movement sparked by the Memorial Day death of George Floyd in Minneapolis continues more than six weeks after he was killed while in police custody and now embraces a wide range of issues.
Among the causes being protested Saturday is the death of Andres Guardado, an 18-year-old who was shot five times in the back in Gardena by a sheriff's deputy, according to an official autopsy released Friday against the sheriff's wishes.
