Music Store Owner Accused Of Molesting Young Girls Faces Judge

Preliminary hearing for music store owner/teacher accused of molesting 2 young girls under 7-years-old. He pleaded not guilty.

CYPRESS, CA — An Irvine resident charged with two felony counts of molestation pleaded not guilty to the crime. Randal "Randy" Letcher Scott, a 57-year-old owner of music teaching schools in Cypress and Irvine was accused of molesting two female students, ages 5 and 6-years-old.

If convicted, he faces 30 years to life in prison, and a lifetime of sex offender registration according to the Orange County District Attorney's office.

Scott was charged with two felony counts of committing lewd acts on a child younger than 14, according to Deputy District Attorney Bobby Taghavi.

Scott owns the Music Town business. Given his access to children, investigators are concerned there may be more alleged victims, Taghavi said.

He allegedly molested the 6-year-old, who was also a student, sometime in November of last year, the prosecutor said. Scott is accused of molesting the 5-year-old girl, who was his student, sometime between October and December 2015, Taghavi said.

The children told their parents, who went to authorities, Taghavi said, adding that the 5-year-old came forward first.

The two children have no other connection, the prosecutor said.

It's unclear where exactly the alleged molestations took place. The Orange County Sheriff's Department began an investigation first, and then Cypress police began investigating the second claim.

Anyone with information about the case that would be helpful to investigators was asked to call Cypress police Detective Deanna Hartman at (714) 229-6738 or Orange County District Attorney Supervising Investigator Eric Wiseman at (714) 347-8794.
