New Owners Take Over Shops at Rossmoor

The Seal Beach shopping center was sold last month at a time when several new stores are being built and planned for The Shops.

are officially under new ownership following the December sale of the shopping center to CPT Shops at Rossmoor, an affiliate of AEW Capital Management, L.P.

In announcing the sale, Monday, Shops officials promised a “seamless” transition and a commitment to the ongoing redevelopment of the site, including new construction projects such as the to open on the south end of the center near Kohl’s in the fall. They also announced the grand opening of the new In-N-Out Burger at The Shops in February. The new owners also plan to locate the center’s property manager and staff onsite. According to Seal Beach city officials, a Staples and PetSmart are also in the works to replace STATS.

According to the company’s press release, “The transition to new ownership should be seamless as AEW intends to hold the asset long term and plans to maintain the integrity of the center and its place in the community. AEW will continue the redevelopment of the center and is committed to bringing desirable merchants to the mix at the The Shops at Rossmoor.”

The change in ownership comes at a time when Rossmoor with the impacts such as traffic congestion stemming from the growth at the shopping center. Last month, they crowded the Rossmoor Community Services District board meeting to vent their frustrations with Seal Beach city officials, whom they accused of shepherding the expansion at The Shops without consideration for the impact upon neighboring Rossmoor. In response, a Shops at Rossmoor Ad Hoc Committee comprised of residents was formed and will meet for the first time Tuesday to address community concerns with the changes at the Shops.
