Orange County to Endure Full Freeway Closures
The 5 Freeway will be closed this weekend to remove portions of the Ortega Highway overpass, and the 405 will close for 20 hours near Seal Beach later this month.

A pair of freeway closures will make things interesting at either end of Orange County in the next two weeks, Caltrans officials said.
Demolition work on a freeway overpass on Interstate 5 at San Juan Capistrano will force the overnight closure of both directions of the freeway, starting at 11 p.m. both tonight and Saturday night. Reopening is planned for 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The southern side of the Ortega Highway (Route 74) overpass above the 5 Freeway is being removed this weekend.

Traffic between San Clemente and Irvine will be forced to exit both directions of the freeway, then re-enter on adjacent onramps. Because of heavy anticipated traffic, cross traffic and drivers wishing to enter or exit the 5 at the 74 will be detoured to nearby ramps or bridges.
The following weekend, and in northwestern Orange County, the San Diego (405) Freeway will be closed for 20 hours starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, to reopen at about 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18.
