SEAL BEACH, CA — Investigators are looking for the driver of a white Mercedes believed to be involved in the fatal shooting of a young man on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Seal Beach Saturday. The car-to-car shooting took place at the county border where three freeways meet, and the investigation lead to hours-long traffic jams on the 405, the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, and the Garden Grove (22) Freeway Saturday night.
Authorities continued their search Sunday for the driver of a white Mercedes 550 or S550. The shooting took the life of a driver in his 20s, who crashed into another vehicle before coming to rest on the side of the freeway shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday. The victim's Hyundai Elantra was found on the northbound freeway just south of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim was the lone occupant of a Hyundai Elantra, which veered left and struck the front of a maroon Honda Accord on the passenger side, according to Duane Graham of the CHP's Westminster office. The one person in that vehicle wasn't hurt, he said.
