Seal Beach Area Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Running Cross County Mortgage Scam
A cross county mortgage relief scam investigation ended with the arrest of a Huntington Beach woman on Wednesday.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — On Thursday, the Huntington Beach Police Department's Economic Crimes Unit released that an arrest was made for a Foreclosure Rescue Scam operator after a multi-jurisdictional investigation. A primary suspect, 55-year-old Huntington Beach resident Brandy Taylor was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 9, after a lengthy investigation.
In a case that began in January of 2016, the Huntington Beach Police Department's Economic Crimes Unit was contacted by a Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office Investigator regarding the scam.
"Victims were found throughout California," HBPD stated over social media release. "The suspected company, Carrington Investments/The Wellington Group was operating out of a business in Huntington Beach."

Reports state that the scam allegedly operated by Carrington Investments/The Wellington Group charging a monthly fee to clients to stop the foreclosure process through the use of fraudulent deeds of trust.
"HBPD Detectives, along with Investigators from the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office, Alameda District Attorney’s Office and Orange County District Attorney’s Office served multiple search warrants in Huntington Beach," they stated. "In November 2016, Santa Barbara County and Alameda County issued 2 arrest warrants for the primary suspect, Brandy Taylor 55, from Huntington Beach.

On November 9, 2016, the HBPD Crime Task Force Unit conducted a surveillance at Taylor’s residence.
"Once detectives established Taylor was present," HBPD said. "They contacted her and took her into custody. She was booked at the HBPD Jail with a bail of $1,360,000.00."
