Seal Beach, Los Alamitos to Get $636,000 for Street Renovations

Seal Beach and Los Alamitos could soon see more than half a million dollars for street renovations, according to the Orange County Transportation Authority.

After the OCTA's board approved funding proposals last week, every Orange County city -- and the county itself -- is scheduled to net a share of $21 million earmarked for 54 transportation projects.

The projects need final approval from the state and range from street rehabilitation to pavement repair to a bicycle trail reconstruction.

OCTA staff expects construction to begin by the middle of next year.

Thirty-five county agencies submitted applications for the funds, which are available through a grant program as part of the Proposition 1B bond that provides nearly $20 billion for transportation projects throughout the state.

Under the program, cities and other agencies must match funds through a local transportation sales tax, such as Measure M2.

Seal Beach will receive $318,000 for its local street resurfacing program, according to an OCTA spokesperson.

With the city’s matching funds, the project totals $655,372.

Los Alamitos will receive $318,000 for construction work on segments of Cerritos Avenue, Los Vasqueros Circle, Humbolt Street and Reagan Street.

With the city’s matching funds, the project totals $636,000.

Of the 87 applications that were submitted, 54 projects were approved by OCTA for funding.
