HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — Beaches were closed on Friday when a shark was spotted off the Orange County coastline.

The sighting Friday of a 12-foot Great White shark near Sunset Beach has prompted officials to close access to the water there.

An officer in a police helicopter spotted the shark about 10:40 a.m. at the southern border of Sunset Beach near Bolsa Chica State Beach, according to Huntington Beach Marine Safety Lt. Claude Panis.
