Three Motorcycle Fatalities In One Day: Orange County

California Highway Patrol reported three fatalities on the San Diego Freeway in Orange County, Friday. All three motorcyclists were killed Friday in two separate collisions, they said.

The first fatality occurred about 5:35 a.m. on the northbound 405 at the Harbor Boulevard offramp in Costa Mesa. A 33-year-old Stanton man was riding a Kawasaki Ninja toward to the offramp when he collided with the rear of a Volvo truck with a trailer, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim was ejected from the bike and was struck by a Hyundai. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second collision happened at 7:22 a.m. in the southbound lanes, south of Irvine Center Drive in Irvine.

A 51-year-old Los Angeles man was riding a Honda NC 700 south in the carpool lane when he veered to the right and collided with a guardrail, the CHP reported. The victim was ejected from the bike and struck by a Volkswagen Jetta, according to the CHP.

The driver of a Nissan Frontier, identified as Leon Cruz, 39, of Santa Ana, managed to avoid the crash and pulled over and got out of his truck to help direct traffic away from the collision.

Shortly thereafter, a 23-year-old Santa Ana man riding a 2015 Kawasaki motorcycle slammed into the back of the Frontier and sustained fatal injuries, the CHP reported.

The victims' names were not immediately released.
