Two Women Struck by Van in Seal Beach

Two women were hospitalized with head injuries after being struck by a commercial van in Seal Beach.

Two women in their 60s suffered head injuries Monday night when they were struck by a commercial van while crossing the street in Seal Beach.

The incident occurred just after 6:45 p.m. at Marina Drive and 5th, confirmed Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi. Both women were taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, one in serious condition and the other in moderate condition, he said.

One woman may have suffered a broken hip, and the other injured her wrist, added Seal Beach Police Department Sgt. Rick Ransdell. The driver of the van cooperated with police, he said.

ā€œThey were in the crosswalk, and he had stopped at the stop sign,ā€ said Sgt. Rick Ransdell.

The driver started to move forward, and he just didn’t see them, said Ransdell.

There were no arrests stemming from the accident.

ā€œThere was no drugs, no alcohol, no speeding, no texting,ā€ said Ransdell. ā€œIt’s one of those things where the guy was driving into the sun.ā€
