• Proposal For Housing at 349 1st Street, Los Altos (sfyimby.com) — A six-story, 19-unit condo building is moving forward at 349 1st Street in downtown Los Altos after clearing environmental review, using the state's builder's remedy. The project, a block from Main Street, will include a podium garage, rooftop deck, bike parking, and four deed-restricted homes for low-income households, though construction cost and timing remain unknown.
   

• Los Altos brings crossing guards in-house (losaltosonline.com) — Los Altos has taken direct control of its school crossing guard program, hiring guards as city employees under police supervision and ending its private vendor contract. A new agreement with Los Altos School District and other districts shares costs, sets per-location fees, and clarifies that the city will ultimately decide where guards are posted based on safety assessments.
   

• Local group offers community to single adults over 60 (losaltosonline.com) — Single adults over 60 in Los Altos now have a standing invitation to meet for conversation at Coffee Together, a monthly gathering at Red Berry Coffee Bar on Main Street. Organizer and new resident Heather Kenvin hopes the casual, non-dating meetups will ease loneliness for widowed and divorced locals by offering simple, low-pressure social connection.
