Los Altos Hills Residents Sought For Sheriff's Community Academy

Academy classes are starting up soon; here's what you need to know.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- The West Valley Division of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office invites residents of the cities of Saratoga, Cupertino and Los Altos Hills, as well as those who live in unincorporated areas within the West Valley jurisdiction, to apply to for a seat in its upcoming community academy.

The academy, which will take place Sept. 14 through Dec. 7, gives a "transparent overview into sheriff’s office functions and operational procedures," according to officials with the West Valley Division.

Weekly classes are taught by deputies, sergeants and staff employed by the sheriff’s office. Curriculum is similar to that of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Enforcement Academy -- offering a mixture of hands-on training, lectures and scenario-based training. Classes include Juvenile Crimes, Crime Scene Investigation, Escalation of Force Continuum, Narcotics Trends, along with a tour of the coroner’s office, the sheriff’s office specialized teams, and the sheriff’s office courthouse.
