1. 'Totemic' celebrates the apricot orchards that once defined the community (losaltosonline.com) — A new interactive sculpture called "Totemic" is coming to 330 Distel Circle, honoring the apricot orchards that once covered Los Altos. Created through a partnership between Arts Los Altos and EAH Housing, the glowing steel-and-glass columns will anchor the city's first all-affordable housing complex and invite residents to engage with light that responds to their heartbeat.
   

2. Follies fundraiser back at the Bus Barn (losaltosonline.com) — Los Altos residents can catch the all-volunteer "Los Altos Stage Company Follies" fundraiser at Bus Barn Theater Sept. 30 through Oct. 2, with proceeds supporting the company's youth education programs. Expect locally written musical parodies riffing on recent headlines, performed to familiar tunes in an intimate neighborhood venue.
   

3. Free Public Talk on Finding Earth 2.0 (funcheap.com) — Foothill College in Los Altos Hills is hosting a free public astronomy lecture by NASA exoplanet scientist Dr. Jessie Christiansen, exploring how we might find an Earth-like planet around another star. The Silicon Valley Astronomy Lecture Series talk will be held in Smithwick Theater, with $3 paid parking and several lot and elevator options for easy access.
   

4. Los Altos family donates $6 million to help rebuild Big Basin (losaltosonline.com) — A Los Altos family has donated $6 million to help rebuild fire-damaged Big Basin Redwoods State Park, funding a new Redwood Ecology Interpretive Center. Resident Barbara Reyneri says the gift honors her late husband and aims to inspire future generations to appreciate and protect the park's natural beauty.
