Los Altos Mom Publishes Debut Book Celebrating the Way Kids with Dyslexia Read the World.
Inspired by years of funny and imaginative misreadings, the book highlights the curiosity and creativity.
As a Los Altos mom, I never expected a parking sign to change the direction of my year. But when my daughter shouted "Pork King!" from the back seat, already deciding what she'd order, it captured something I wanted other families to see: the creativity behind the way she experiences language.
That moment, and many like it, became the inspiration for No Magic. Just a Discount. As I started talking to other families with kids with dyslexia, I realized we all had stories like this, funny, unexpected misreadings that became some of our favorite family memories.
The book isn't about dyslexia as a diagnosis. It's about the imagination and joy so many neurodiverse kids bring into everyday life, often without realizing it themselves. I wrote this book to show that the way these kids experience the world can be something delightful, not something to fix.
