Los Altos Police Chief Announces Retirement

LOS ALTOS, CA – After nine years as the City’s top public safety official, Los Altos Police Chief Tuck Younis announced his retirement from the City of Los Altos effective Dec. 17, according to city officials. Los Altos Police Captain Andy Galea has been named as his replacement.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the residents of Los Altos,” Younis said. “This is a wonderful community with wonderful people living and serving here. During my time here, we have made great strides in connecting and working with members of the public to improve public safety in the City of Los Altos.”

Younis served in the San Jose Police Department for 29 years prior to joining the City of Los Altos in 2007.

Los Altos City Manager Chris Jordan announced Galea as the new police chief effective upon Younis’ retirement.

“While we are sad to see Chief Younis leave the City, the Police Department is in excellent hands with Chief Galea,” said Jordan. “Chief Galea brings years of experience and a life-long commitment to public service and is more than up for the task of filling Chief Younis’ shoes.”

Galea spent the majority of his police career with the San Jose Police Department rising to the level of Deputy Chief before becoming Chief Younis’ second-in-command in 2009.

Galea’s law enforcement experience includes assignments as Chief of Field Operations and Chief of Investigations, in addition to developing a strong commitment to working closely with business and neighborhood groups.

As a captain in Los Altos, Galea’s primary focus has been on the oversight of the Department’s day-to-day operations, including patrol, traffic and investigations.
