Power Restored to Hundreds After Blown Transformer In Los Altos

PG&E has restored power to hundreds of residents and businesses in the Los Altos area after a transformer blew out this morning, PG&E officials said.

The transformer failed at 8:23 a.m. in downtown Los Altos on Plaza Central between First and Second streets, police said. PG&E spokesman Nick Smith said the power outage affected 593 customers, all of whom had power restored by 9:46 a.m.

A few customers in the northwest corner of First and Main streets are still without power, and restoration time is estimated within four hours, said the police.

Police added that the cause of the power outage is reported to be two birds that flew into the transformer.
