Suspect With Knife Shot By CHP, Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries On Hwy 101

The incident was in the early-morning hours near Belmont. [Breaking]

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – A California Highway Patrol officer shot a suspect who was allegedly armed with a knife and charging on U.S. Highway 101 in Belmont early this morning, according to a CHP spokesman.

A pedestrian was reported on both sides of Highway 101 at Ralston Avenue a little after 2 a.m., according to Officer Art Montiel.

Arriving officers tried to take the suspect into custody but he allegedly resisted, prompting officers to use a Taser, which had no effect, Montiel said.

The suspect produced a knife, held it overhead and charged at the officer, who opened fire. The suspect suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, according to Montiel.

Only one officer was involved in the shooting. No officers were injured.
