South Bay Woman Hit, Killed By Charter Bus

BREAKING: The bus was traveling south on Fruitvale Avenue and turning near the southwest corner of West Valley College.

SOUTH BAY, CA -- A San Jose woman was killed at a Saratoga community college on the evening of January 3 when a charter bus hit her, West Valley College officials said.

At 5:15 p.m. Tuesday the bus, owned by San Francisco-based Storer Coachways, was traveling south on Fruitvale Avenue and turning onto Athletics Way, near the southwest corner of West Valley College, when it hit the woman, 51-year-old San Jose resident Xiaolan Lou.

West Valley College-Mission Community College District police have not determined whether Lou was in the crosswalk and expect the investigation to take a significant amount of time, according to West Valley College
spokesman Scott Ludwig.

Lou was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. She does not appear to have any association with the college, Ludwig said.

In a statement to Patch, Storer Coachways said the company was "greatly saddened" by the loss, offered its condolences and prayers to the victim's family and pledged its assistance in cooperating with state and local authorities in the investigation.
