Going to the top end of Queensland has the reputation for being the best place in the world to go deep sea fishing. Some of the best vessels and crews in the world. Whether you are chasing a 1000lb Black Marlin out on the Great Barrier Reef, or gently drifting down a rain forest river in search of the famous Barramundi, your fishing dreams really can come true in Cairns. I've got to tell you about my "Barramundi" experience. I took a 4 week bus tour on my own, from one end of Western Australia to the other to learn about the State when I was a new Aussie specialist. Every little town we stopped at each night, the Manager got on the bus to welcome us - 23 elderly Aussies and me, and said - "Great news everyone, we have Barramundi for dinner tonight". Good job (being British ) I liked fish. It was smashing.

In the lead up to the "Green Season" October to early January, the rivers and estuaries are at their best. Species such as Mangrove Jack, Queenfish, Trevally, Tarpon, Cod and the Emperor of the Estuary, the Barramundi are all willing to take a well presented bait, lure or fly, Further upstream in the rain forest freshwater streams, the Jungle Perch, sooty Grunter and Jacks are the light tackle anglers adversaries. Whatever form of fishing you like, you can ensure you have the right guide to suit your angling style.

Out on the Great Barrier Reef, fish species such as Spanish Mackeral, Giant Trevally, Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Barracuda Tuna and Mahi-Mahi. For those anglers who prefer bottom fishing, we also have you well covered. The superb Coral Trout, Red Emperor, several species of sweetlip and the Large Mouth Nannygal can provide excellent fishing opportunities on the reefs around Cairns.

Giant Black Marlin begin showing themselves in late September. Anglers from all over the world come in to Cairns to battle with these giants of the sea. Records will tumble, anglers will battle hard, some win and some lose.
