Suspected Identity Snatcher Arrested In Los Altos Case

The female allegedly stole the victim's information from mail.

The Los Altos Police Department reported today that a San Jose woman, 44, was arrested on suspicion of identity theft of a local woman.

The Los Altos resident reported to police in February that someone had used her personal identifying information to open a credit account and make purchases without her permission, police said.

Detectives determined that the suspect was San Jose resident Evelyn Hernandez, who also uses the last name Whitehurst. Police said Hernandez obtained the victim’s information from an article of mail.

Los Altos officers obtained an arrest warrant for Hernandez which was served at the Elmwood Correctional Facility where she was already in custody on unrelated charges.
