Whiz Kid: Monica Turrey
Patch's latest 'Whiz Kid' is an excellent student who regularly gives back to her school and community, and plans to start a club on her campus next year that spreads awareness of disabilities.
Whiz Kid’s Name: Monica Turrey
Whiz Kid’s School: Los Altos High School
Whiz Kid’s Accomplishments: A junior, Monica maintains a steady GPA while participating in many clubs at her school, such as the Latino Student Union, in which she plans to run for vice president next year. She is also a two-year member of the Random Acts of Kindness club, and is starting her own club on campus next year, which she plans to call ENABLE. Her club will work to spread awareness about disabilities, a personal cause to her that she is very passionate about. Monica constantly challenges herself as a student, taking many difficult courses such as Advanced Placement U.S. history and chemistry, as well as photography. Looking ahead to college, Monica says her top choice is Arizona State University, where she hopes to take business courses such as finance and supply chain management. Monica is one of two Students of the Month for the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District for March.

Whiz Kid’s Key to Success: “I consider my key to success to be continuous learning. As a student, I feel it is my responsibility to immerse myself in situations, whether they be inside or outside of school, where I am provided the opportunity to learn and grow through my interactions with others. It is very important for me to surround myself with a diverse group of people and opportunities that will lead me in the right direction as a student and, most importantly, as an individual.”
