Arson Suspect Arrested In Connection With South Bay Blaze

SAN JOSE, CA — Firefighters worked through the night battling a cluster of South Bay vegetation fires that burned about 90 acres near a San Jose water treatment plant in the Santa Teresa hills according to Cal Fire.

One person was arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the Colleen Fire, police said.

The blaze was about 80 percent contained as of Friday morning according Cal Fire.

An advisory was issued by Cal Fire at 6:10 p.m. for the blaze burning near Colleen Drive and Chesbro Avenue, which was first reported at about 5:50 p.m.

Fire officials said evacuation orders were lifted at about 9:15 p.m.

An evacuation center had been set up at the Almaden Community Center at 6445 Camden Ave. in San Jose, according to the city's parks officials.

San Jose Fire Capt. Brian Palodichuk said the fires were set two to five miles apart, according to a San Jose Mercury News report.

“Someone intentionally started it,” Palodichuk told The Mercury News.
