As part of Amour d'Art's Special Inventory Sale, the gallery is offering a limited number of pieces by the late Joseph Dawley.

Amour d’Art is featuring a limited number of pieces by the late Joseph Dawley (1936-2008) as part of the gallery’s ongoing Inventory Sale. Joseph Dawley art is known for its lush, impressionist style and can be found in fine art collections and museums throughout North America. During his lifetime, the artist’s work was recognized, displayed, and commissioned by the likes of the Vatican and the White House. Now collectors are invited to visit or contact the Amour d’Art Gallery of Los Gatos, CA to purchase select pieces of Joseph Dawley artwork at special closeout pricing.

Joseph Dawley: A Celebrated Artist

Joseph Dawley’s artwork was heralded in his time and is still sought after today. During the 1980s, Joseph Dawley was commissioned to paint the official portraits of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton that were unveiled at the Vatican during her Canonization ceremonies and later displayed at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. His work can be found in prestigious collections including those of Notre Dame University, the Mayo Clinic, Windsor and Newton, and others. Dawley’s paintings were also featured on the covers of magazines and journals such as Down East magazine and the Journal of the American Medical Association, and in advertisements and promotions for the likes of Cartier jewelers. He also opened his own gallery in Cranford, New Jersey and released five full-color books of his artwork between 1977 and 1987.

As his career continued to flourish, the artist received national media attention in 1989 when the Tom Brokaw Nightly News Program featured a story about how Dawley changed his style from Traditionalism to Impressionism as a result of his Parkinson’s disease. The Sunday New York Times also published a story about the artist’s journey in 1992, and Eyewitness News aired a similar story later that year. Eventually Dawley’s story and celebrated artwork caught the eye of a very important collector: President Bill Clinton. The painter was invited to create a painting for use as the official White House Christmas Card in 1994, and the Clintons also personally purchased his piece, “June Sunset Over the Potomac.”
