The Rotary Club of Cupertino (www.cupertinorotary.org) is once again partnering with West Valley Community Services to sponsor the Back to School Clothing Program, which provides clothing, shoes, backpacks, and school supplies to children in low income households in the west valley. These items are needed this year more than ever, as low income households are struggling in the wake of COVID-19.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Rotary Club of Cupertino Youth and Community Services Committee Members for their continued support of this project - and for all the ways your compassionate hearts bring hope to our community's most vulnerable residents,” said Josh Selo, executive director of West Valley Community Services. “ You are an incredible group of people - and I am so thankful for all the ways you make a difference in this region and beyond,” he added.

“We are always pleased to help and volunteer our efforts to West Valley Community Services,” said John Hirokawa, Cupertino Rotary Youth Services Committee Chair. “This project, especially now during the pandemic is all the more reason we need to continue helping and supporting families and children in need,” he added.

About the Back To School Program

Back-To-School Program has been helping to ensure the leaders of tomorrow - the young people in our community - have the basic tools they need to start the school year off successfully. The Back-To-School Program is for school-aged children entering Transitional Kindergarten to 12th Grade. Children will receive a backpack full of school supplies and gift cards for new shoes and clothes for the school year.

When is it scheduled

Back-To-School will be held on August 7-8th, 2020.

How will it work this year given Covid-19?

At our typical Annual Back-To-School Program, children are paired with an adult volunteer chaperone who assists them with choosing the clothing they need for school. Afterward, they are given a backpack, supplies, and breakfast. Unfortunately, that format is not possible this year. Instead, we will be assembling packages made of backpacks and gift cards at our office.

We will work with our community for volunteers to do contactless drop offs of backpacks and gift cards at client doorsteps.
