Fun to be out in Los Gatos, CA at a Party on September 1st, 2022

It was a trip for me to go back to Los Gatos. Long gone were the days of the sleepy, little, low-down, uptown, and now an up-side-down town, that used to take me to the mountains or beach where two cat statues always stood guarding this community. (see pictures at end of my fond memories) As I was driving through Main Street people were out, dressed up, and shops and restaurants were packed with people. Los Gatos has changed and it was fantastic to be going to a party on a warm summer night!

I signed in to the event. Inside the museum were displays of art. The party was outside and that’s where a lot of people were. I headed into the museum first and looked around at all the beautiful art.

History of New Museum Los Gatos

New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU), formerly the Los Gatos Museum Association founded in 1965, opened in June 2015 with three times more exhibition space than the previous main location. This allowed it to build a facility to serve as a community hub for all ages with fresh perspectives on the history, art, and innovation of our times in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2015, The Museum Association celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The mission of New Museum Los Gatos is “to engage the community at the intersection of art, history, and education through innovative, locally connected and globally relevant exhibits, programs, and experiences.”

History of Los Gatos

The Tamien Nation identifies itself as the tribe most directly indigenous to Santa Clara County, despite the events and policies of state-sanctioned murders, land theft, and massive societal pressures, they managed to maintain their cultural identity.

Charles Erskine Scott Wood: 1852-1944

In 1924, C.E.S. Wood and Bard Field built an estate in the hills above Los Gatos. An American writer and lawyer C.E.S. Wood and poet and suffragist Sara Bard Field. C.E.S. Wood, was an author, civil libertarian, soldier, and attorney. C.E.S. Wood is best known as the author of the 1927 satirical bestseller, Heavenly Discourse.
American Bohemia explores their storied lives. Wood and Field were acclaimed literary figures and intellectuals, and their home, which became a gathering place for some of America’s most significant artists and writers including Robinson Jeffers, Ansel Adams, John Steinbeck, Ralph Stackpole, and Lincoln Steffens, according to the exhibit description.
This now 75-acre estate, dubbed “the Cats” after the 8-foot cat sculptures that graced the front entrance, served as a creative retreat and home for Wood and Field until the mid-1950s.

The Old Town Sandalmakers (Los Gatos)

No, they're not hippies ... they were the employees of a business in downtown Los Gatos that made sandals more than 40 years ago. The 1970 Old Town Sandalmakers was a retail business on the lower level of Old Town in the '60s and '70s.

Content Magazine's Pick-Up Party

Nicholaus James Dalton

Present at the party was Metaphysical

artist Nicholaus James Dalton. Dalton is a featured artist in Content Magazine's 14.4 Profiles Issue. A very, very, intelligent man, whose Works are as old as the cosmos itself. "Circles, as found in our natural existence represent wholeness or oneness," states Dalton. "The colors give a visual vibration which is seen throughout life on this planet and abound in the cosmos."

His wife Sally was so warm and welcoming, and without hesitation took a photo holding La Reina de las Chicas (Queen of the Petite Women). La Reina de las Chicas is a work of Graphite and wax on paper by California prison artist Donald "C-Note" Hooker. He is the sole artist I work with as an Art Broker. After taking the photo I then shared with Sally that I had just uploaded it, and published it to my digital magazine on Flipboard.

Kathy Aoki

Santa Clara University associate professor Kathy Aoki is also a featured visual artist in Content Magazine's 14.4 Profiles Issue.
Greeting cards of work were given to the public for free. I collected two of them. Aoki is a visual artist who uses satire to critique value systems that dominate gender, pop culture, and politics, as shown in the greeting card above.
