Ranch Fire In Santa Clara County Burns 85 Acres

Breaking: The brush fire is burning near the site of the recent Quimby Fire east of San Jose.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- About 100 firefighters are battling what has been dubbed the Ranch Fire and is composed of three fires spanning 85 acres in the hills east of San Jose this afternoon, Cal Fire officials said.

Fire dispatchers received a call shortly after 2 p.m. reporting a fire on Quimby Road and two others in the area of Grant Road and Mt. Hamilton Road.

At 3:22 p.m., the blaze was reported at 28 acres but had grown to 85 acres sometime before 4 p.m.

The fires were 50 percent contained by around 3:55 p.m., said Pam Temmermand, fire prevention specialist for Cal Fire.

No structures have been threatened or lost and no injuries have been reported, Temmermand said. The cause and source of the fire is under investigation.

Just last week, Cal Fire announced the containment of the Quimby Fire, which burned 54 acres in the same vicinity.

On Wednesday, firefighters from San Jose and other agencies doused this brush fire documented by a Fresco video user.
