Santa Clara County Reports 185 New Coronavirus Cases, 1 Death

There were 80 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County as of Thursday.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 185 additional coronavirus cases Thursday.

The latest announcement brings the countywide COVID-19 case count to 4,750.

The county reported onre new coronavirus-related fatality, bringing its COVID-19 death toll to 159.

Elsewhere around the Bay Area and beyond, San Francisco Supervisor Hillary Ronen on Thursday announced the launch of a new program that will provide income to people who've tested positive for COVID-19 and have no other way of accessing funds.

The Right to Recover program would guarantee two weeks of paid wages to anyone who tests positive and doesn't have alternative access to income or benefits during their recovery period.

More than two dozen street cleaners and truck drivers with San Francisco's Department of Public Works rallied Wednesday at the department's Operation Yard to call for more places to wash their hands while on the job during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

A Benicia firefighter informed the city Wednesday that they tested positive for COVID-19. The source of the infection has not been determined, and the Benicia Fire Department said it is working with Solano County Public Health staff to determine the source.

No city staff or community members are known to have been exposed to the firefighter during the firefighter's infectious period.

There were 242,856 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 6,208 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Thursday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States had 2,735,339 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 128,677 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Thursday afternoon.
