South Bay Man Shot With Rubber Bullet After Aiding Cop: Report

San Jose resident Tim Harper told KGO he was shot by embattled officer Jared Yuen.

SAN JOSE, CA — A South Bay man who came to the aid of a police officer during Friday’s protest of the killing of George Floyd was later injured when police fired a rubber bullet at him according to a published report.

Floyd died after a disgraced Minneapolis police officer who has since been fired kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes as three other police officers stood by idly. Derek Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

San Jose resident Tim Harper said he was struck in the gut after speaking up for a teenage boy who was hit in the head by police projectiles outside San Jose City Hall, KGO reports.

"I tried to walk up peacefully,” he told KGO.

"I was a good distance from them and I just said 'you guys just shot a kid in the head over here, what the heck is wrong with you guys' and then the next thing I know, an officer walked through two officers, shot me, and then stepped behind the other two officers, and I just turned around and walked off."

Moments before the incident Harper came to the aid of an injured police officer. He is shown on video carrying the man to safety along with two other officers.

"Instincts - I ran up there and grabbed his ankles and carried him to his car."

Harper told KGO that he was shot by embattled SJPD officer Jared Yuen.

Viral video of Yuen taunting protesters has gone viral and drawn widespread condemnation and international coverage.
