California high-speed rail turns to private investors (visaliatimesdelta.com) ā High-speed rail construction is slated to move north toward Fresno and Madera County after an initial 22-mile stretch near Shafter is built, with track work possibly starting in late 2026. State officials just approved a $3.5 billion track-and-systems contract and are courting a global private consortium, aiming for MercedāBakersfield passenger service in the early 2030s despite major cost and funding concerns.
