Funded by a $2.125 million emergency contract under the state climate bond, the project will replace deteriorated pilings and bracing while State Parks coordinates closely with the City of Malibu and regulators.
2. Caltrans Announces $69 Million Pacific Coast Highway Paving Project (mynewsla.com) — A $69 million Pacific Coast Highway paving and safety project through Malibu starts Oct. 27, bringing years of weekday lane closures and delays between Malibu Lagoon and the Ventura County line. Expect daytime construction, noise and upgraded pavement, guardrails, lighting, signals and ADA curb ramps through winter 2029-30.
3. GoFundMe raises more than $55k for family of killed Nobu Malibu chef (amedpost.com) — A Nobu Malibu chef was killed Oct. 3 while resting in his parked car on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, and a GoFundMe has already raised more than $55,000 for his family. Investigators at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station are reconstructing the crash, and no charges have yet been filed against the 16-year-old SUV driver.
4. Emergency alert: Coastal flood warning hits LA, OC and San Diego coasts now (newsbreak.com) — Malibu is under a coastal flood warning through Sunday afternoon, with forecasters warning that high tides, storm swells and strong onshore winds could flood beach roads and low-lying buildings. Residents are urged to avoid beaches and jetties, watch for road closures, use sandbags where needed and prepare for potentially worse flooding Sunday morning.
5. New speed cameras in Malibu detect more than 100,000 violations on PCH in 9 days (abc7.com) — New speed cameras on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu recorded more than 100,000 speeding violations in just nine days, underscoring residents' fears about deadly crashes. Locals are pushing for both active ticketing and more CHP presence, hoping tougher enforcement will finally slow drivers and prevent further fatalities along this dangerous stretch of PCH.
