Today's riddle: Why do some birds fly south for the winter? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Beach hazards statement for Malibu Coast and Los Angeles until early Tuesday evening (fresnobee.com) — A National Weather Service beach hazards statement is in effect for the Malibu Coast through 5 p.m. Tuesday, warning of dangerous rip currents, elevated surf and unusually high tides. Residents are urged to stay out of the water, avoid rocks and jetties, protect flood‑prone property, and never drive through coastal flooding around local beaches and harbors.
2. Malibu pushes back speed camera warning launch to November as testing logs 100,000 violations (smmirror.com) — Malibu is delaying the start of its speed camera warning period until November while engineers fine-tune equipment and complete a traffic study focused on Eastern Malibu, Carbon Canyon, and Tuna Canyon. Test runs already logged about 100,000 speeding violations—most on Pacific Coast Highway—so residents should expect formal warnings, and eventually tickets, once the city finalizes speed limits and announces the new start date.
3. High Surf Pounds the Alamitos Peninsula, Long Beach (mynewsla.com) — Tropical Storm Rachel is battering Long Beach's Alamitos Peninsula, but the National Weather Service has also issued coastal flood and high surf alerts through Tuesday for the Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County beaches. Malibu residents should expect large waves, strong rip currents, high tides over seven feet and possible coastal flooding, and are urged to avoid beaches, walkways and flooded roads.
4. Trailblazer Swimming Dominates at Pepperdine Rodionoff Invite (utahtechtrailblazers.com) — A collegiate swim invitational at Pepperdine's Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu saw Utah Tech dominate, winning most individual and relay events. While the focus is on the visiting team's performance, it highlights Malibu as a host for high-level collegiate competition and a busy weekend at the local pool complex.
