Friends and Family Remember Emily Shane
A ceremony takes place for the unveiling of the Emily Shane Way street sign on what would have been Emily's 15th birthday.
The friends and family of Emily Shane gathered at on Tuesday for an event marking the unveiling of the Emily Shane Way street sign. The new sign appears at the intersection of Heathercliff Road and Pacific Coast Highway, which is near the location where Emily was struck and killed by a vehicle in April 2010 at age 13.
The signs says "Heathercliff Road" and "Emily Shane Way." The official name of the street remains Heathercliff Road.
Also at the event, which took place on what would have been Emily's 15th birthday, her family talked about the foundation created in her memory. The Emily Shane Foundation will fund a new Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District program called Successful Educational Achievement, which will provide tutoring to middle school students who have learning or processing issues.
