Malibu High Football Season Kicks Off Next Month
The Sharks open their 2011 season at Fillmore.
The varsity football team will open its 2011 campaign with a non-league Friday night game Sept. 2 at Fillmore. Head coach Ray Humphrey's squad seeks to avenge a 53-0 home loss to the Flashes in last year's opener.
The Sharks are hoping to rebound from a 1-8-1 2010 season, in which the team finished at the bottom of the Frontier League standings and scored an average of 12.4 points per game. The lone triumph was a 21-14 home victory in Week 2 over Pasadena Poly. The Sharks play the Panthers again Sept. 10, this time in Pasadena.
Malibu's home opener is a Saturday afternoon game Sept. 17 against St. Monica, which defeated the Sharks 21-13 last year.

After traveling to North Hollywood for a night game with Bell-Jeff, Malibu returns home Oct. 1 for an afternoon contest against Flintridge Prep—a team it tied 14-14 last season at Occidental College. The Sharks' final nonleague game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Oct. 29 against visiting St. Joseph Academy.
After a bye week, the Sharks open Frontier League action against Bishop Diego Oct. 14 at Santa Barbara City College, then host their next two home games against Villanova Prep of Ojai and Simi Valley Grace Brethren.

Malibu's league and regular season finale is Nov. 11 against Santa Clara at Pacifica High School in Oxnard. If the Sharks qualify for the playoffs, they will compete in the CIF Southern Section's East Valley Division bracket.
