Malibu To Host Power Outage Training For Local Seniors
Amid local frustration about recent Southern California Edison-initiated power outages, Malibu will host a training session for seniors.

MALIBU, CA — Malibu will host power outage training for local seniors and at-risk adults following a series of unpopular power shutoffs from Southern California Edison.
The virtual training, which will take place on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., will teach residents how to prepare for and respond for SCE's public safety power shutoffs. These are power outages implemented by SCE when there is a chance SCE equipment could ignite a fire given weather conditions.
At the end of the training, the city will give out a free backup battery to all participants who have completed the training and a quiz, along with a copy of a photo ID.

During the week of Thanksgiving, Malibu saw multiple power outages along with neighboring city's like Calabasas and Agoura Hills. The outages were prompted by severe weather conditions that put the area at risk of wildfire, but many residents and council members were frustrated by the outages.
