Malibu Players Advance at Ojai Tournament
Sharks Gabriel Rapoport and Britta Mosser are still alive in singles competition.

The 111th Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament is in full swing in Ventura County, and several Malibu residents advanced in their respective divisions on Thursday.
freshman , who is seeded seventh in the boys’ 14s singles division, earned a first-round bye. In the second round he beat Jack La Plante of Ojai, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to Friday’s round of 16. Rapoport is scheduled to play another Ojai resident, Aiden Jiang, at 11 a.m. at Ojai Valley School. If he is victorious, Rapoport will play again at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
In the girls’ 16s singles division, Malibu High sophomore had a first-round bye, then swept Bridget Etchegaray of Yorba Linda, 6-2, 6-1, in the round of 32 at the upper Ojai courts on Santa Paula Road.

At 12:30 p.m. Friday, Mosser is scheduled to play No. 7-seeded Hilary West of Simi Valley at Villanova School in the round of 16. The winner advances to the quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m.
Also in the girls’ 16s singles was Sharks freshman , who beat Lauren Radding of Ojai, 6-1, 6-1, in the first round Thursday morning at the Linda Flora Road courts in Rancho Matilija, then fell to No. 2-seeded Francis Dean of Arcadia, 6-0, 6-0, at the same site.

In the boys’ CIF singles division, Malibu resident of Los Angeles Loyola High advanced when Marc Walter of Lake Balboa Birmingham withdrew from the tournament due to injury. In the second round, Anthony lost to San Diego’s Tyler Pham, 6-2, 6-0, at Villanova.
All 14s, 16s, 18s and CIF division singles and doubles finals are Saturday.
In the women’s Open doubles division, Malibu’s is partnered with Page Bartelt of Mission Viejo and they play Dina McBride of Woodland Hills and San Diego’s Zoe Scandals in the first round of the eight-team bracket at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ojai Valley Inn. If victorious, Steinmetz and Bartelt would play again at 3:30 p.m. at the same location.
The women’s Open doubles final is Sunday at 2 p.m. at Libbey Park in downtown Ojai.
