Malibu Proposes Ordinance To Keep Night Sky Dark
One of the goals of the proposed ordinance is to reduce light pollution to preserve enjoyment of the night sky & Malibu's rural environment.

MALIBU, CA – Malibu City Council will hold a public hearing to discuss the City's proposed Dark Sky Ordinance on April 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Malibu City Hall. The ordinance would regulate outdoor lighting through the adoption of citywide outdoor lighting standards into Title 17 (Zoning) of the Malibu Municipal Code, according to the City of Malibu.
The goals of the ordinance are to: provide safe and effective levels of outdoor lighting; curtail light pollution to preserve enjoyment of the nighttime sky and Malibu's rural environment; avoid impacts to wildlife and natural habitats; and promote Malibu's goal of conserving energy and natural resources.
The proposed ordinance has been reviewed by the Zoning Ordinances Revisions and Code Enforcement Subcommittee (ZORACES). The City also held a Joint City Council and Planning Commission tour/workshop to discuss the proposed ordinance, and the Planning Commission has held a hearing to consider the proposed ordinance, according to the City of Malibu.
