The 17-year-old is giving back to her community by donating a percentage of her prize money to Woolsey Fire victims.
MALIBU, CA – A Malibu teen won the 2018 World Surfing League Women's World Longboard Championship at the Taiwan Open of Surfing, it was announced Monday. Soleil Errico, 17, is the first Malibu native to win a surfing world championship, and dedicated her win to her hometown.
The teen, one of the youngest World Surfing League champions, is also donating a percentage of her winnings to Malibu after the fires that ravaged the county.
"I am dedicating my world championship win to my hometown of Malibu. We have been through very tough times these past months and I want to bring some hope to my town," Errico told Patch. "I am donating 20 percent of my win to Kim LeDoux, also known as Miss Kimmy, who lost her home in the fire and who inspired me to give back since I was 3-years-old. She is the role model for giving and caring."
