Sharks Pitch Shutout to Stay in First Place

Malibu improved to 5-1 in conference play, and 15-3 on the season, versus Fillmore as Noah Simon pitched seven shutout innings.

Mabilu's Noah Simon pitched seven shutout innings and Chase Lambert went 3-for-4, with a double and triple, to lead the Sharks to a 7-0 conference victory over rival Fillmore.

After winning the San DIego Lions Tournament, the Sharks played their last two non-conference games last week against a tough Division One opponent, Santa Monica High School. The Sharks dropped two close games 5-2 and 2-1. Even though they did not win, Sharks earned the respect of the Southern California high school baseball world.

The Sharks came into Wednesday's game against league rival Fillmore tied for first place in the conference with a 14-3 overall record, 5-1 in league play.

The Sharks proved they are ready for the stretch run of their season as Simon led the way by shutting out Fillmore 7-0, giving up just two hits, while striking out six and issuing no walks. Simon is now 6-1 on the year, with one save.

Lambert began the game with a triple to right center that was misplayed by Fillmore, allowing him to score on the play and the Sharks took a 1-0 lead on the first batter of the game. They would never look back, as that would be all the runs Simon would need.

The Sharks offense put up six more runs getting big contributions from freshman Ezra Allen, who had two hits including an RBI double. Also knocking two hits for the game were freshman Dylan Ross, sophomore Austin George and senior Frank Thomas. Alvaro "Alvie" Alvarado added a RBI double as the Sharks cruised.

The win improves the Sharks record to 15-3 overall, and 5-1 in conference play, which keeps them in first place. The Sharks have equalled their win total of a year ago and with 15 wins, and with nine conference games left this year and CIF playoffs, they continue their strong play.
