In what has become a tradition on Malibu High Senior Night, Coach Tenorio, had seniors start regardless of the regular rotation.
Carter Baldwin, who graduated from Malibu High School in 2009, was honored this week with an All-American nod for his career at California Lutheran University.
While shorthanded due to illness and injuries, the varsity team performed admirably against Division I & II teams, finishing sixth in the tournament.
"It is the perfect way to get ready for the spring season and stay active over winter break," said Ari Jacobs, head baseball coach at MHS.
The win was the product of team play and a real boost after the Pacifica tournament last week.
Malibu High School wins over Sun Valley 79-61, but falls in three other games in the Coast Tournament this weekend.
"This is an opportunity for the running community to band together," says organizer Jennifer Calloway.
The lone score for the Sharks came with just 0:21 seconds left in the game.
The lady Sharks advance to the CIF Individual Preliminary competition Nov. 19 at the Cate School in Carpenteria.
The lady Sharks are now 15-0 for the season.
Merrill Moses, a two-time Olympian in water polo and Pepperdine alumni, has returned to Malibu to coach.
Struggles by the Sharks special teams proved too much, despite a stout defensive effort.
“It was an outstanding day for the Sharks. The conditions were hot and dusty, but our runners were undeterred. Every one of them finished strong and ran aggressively,” Malibu High School Head Cross Country Coach Karen Costello said.
Thousands of athletes are expected to take part in the Malibu Triathlon this weekend.
