Teachers deliver lawn signs to Malibu High seniors
On April 19, Malibu High seniors found signs saying "Class of 2020: We love our seniors!" that their teachers had made and delivered.
MALIBU — Normally high school students might find it jarring to wake up and see their teachers and principal right outside their door. But on April 19, seniors at Malibu High School were excited to see faculty members delivering lawn signs that said, “Class of 2020: We love our seniors!”
According to MHS principal Patrick Miller, the idea to post signs came from physical education teacher Lisa Lambert and marine science teacher Amy Galipeau to cheer up seniors who have missed many senior year milestones due to COVID-19. Lambert and Galipeau worked with parent Jennifer deNicola to design and purchase the sign, and then enlisted their colleagues to help deliver them onto the lawns of their students.
“These poor kids – they have spent 13 years in our schools and had it all abruptly change with no sense of closure at all,” Miller told the Malibu Surfside News. “When I recently met with some senior students, they expressed wanting just ‘one more day’ where they could go class to class with their friends and teachers.”

Miller said other fun activities are being planned for Malibu students as the year winds down, including an in-person graduation ceremony at some point in the future.
