Topanga Canyon Boulevard To Shut Down Ahead Of Rainstorm This Week

A key stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard will shut down ahead of expected rain this week.

TOPANGA, CA — A key stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard will shut down at 9 p.m. Tuesday ahead of predicted rain.

A 3.6-mile stretch of the road will be shut down between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive. The road is expected to reopen Wednesday, unless predicted overnight rain creates major impacts such as debris flows, according to Caltrans.

Light to moderate rain is expected Tuesday night and into early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Rainfall is expected to be under 1 inch in most areas.

"Caltrans made this decision due to expected rainfall totals being above the threshold for potential debris flow, which is 0.25 inches of rain per hour in this area," officials said in a release.

Crews were preparing for the storm by moving equipment, placing k-rail and sandbags and stabilizing current retaining wall and other project work on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, as well as on Pacific Coast Highway between Sunset Boulevard and Carbon Beach Terrace, according to Caltrans.
