What's The Worst Thing About Living In California?

MALIBU, CA – California has a diverse landscape of deserts, beaches, mountains, and cities, coupled with some of the best, most mild weather in the country – which explains a nickname like the Golden State. There are dozens of songs written about California in almost every genre, from "California Sun" by the Ramones, to "California Girls" by Katy Perry, to "California Love" by Tupac, and even "Hotel California" by the Eagles. To say California is popular would be an understatement.

But no state is perfect (no matter how much you love it), and California is no different. Insider came up with a list of the worst things about living in each state, with flaws ranging from minor ones like "too many hipsters," to major ones like "a high range of drug overdoses." Although California deals with wild fires, droughts, earthquakes, homelessness, and a housing crisis, none of these flaws were considered the worst thing about living in the state.

The number one worst thing about living in California is that the air and water quality are low, according to Insider. To make matters worse, Californians' "quality of life" is worse than any other states', according to a 2018 study conducted by U.S. News.

States were judged by a variety of factors for the study, including infrastructure, air quality, voter participation, drinking water quality, social support, among others.

Some of the worst things about living in various other states included:

• New York: The homelessness population is growing
• Florida: Drug overdoses are common.
• Texas: The "American Dream" is probably going to stay a dream.
• Oregon: Serial killers abound.
• Washington: Cars are a hot commodity — to steal.
• Arizona: Teacher turnover rates are high.
• Hawaii: Taxpayer returns on investments are terrible.
• Massachusetts: Happy hour specials are illegal.
