Wooden Foot 1,500-Years-Old Found in Austria: Archeologists in Austria say they’ve unearthed an ancient grave that contains what they believe to be Europe’s oldest prosthetic implant in the shape of a wooden foot dating from the sixth century.
Geez, talk about having one foot in the grave! This, of course, raises the question, if you’re buried with a wooden foot, are you still considered to be six feet under - or would that now become seven?
Word has it that after discovering the foot, astonished researchers looked at each other and said “isn’t it good, Norwegian wood?” I kind of wonder how they would determine a wooden foot is actually 1500 years old? Do they count the rings on it?

While most archeologists found the news exciting, a local taxpayer’s group wanted to know who’s footing the bill for this and tried to get funding withdrawn. After complaining to the University, they quickly discovered they didn’t have a leg to stand on.
Of course everyone knows its easy to make jokes about something like this, but who knows what any of us would all do if the shoe were on the other foot?
