3 Arrested, 4 Cited During DUI Checkpoint In Manhattan Beach
Out of a total of 780 drivers who were screened, three people were arrested, four people were cited and three cars were impounded.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Three people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and four people were cited during last week's DUI checkpoint and in Manhattan Beach, authorities said.
Out of a total of 780 drivers screened on Manhattan Beach Boulevard at John Street on Friday, police said:
- Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of DUI;
- Four drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license;
- Three vehicles were impounded.
According to a statement from the MBPD, the intent of the checkpoint was the encourage sober designated drivers.

"By publicizing these educational and enforcement efforts, the Manhattan Beach Police Department believes that drinking and driving, and driving while unlicensed will be reduced," MBPD said in a statement.
Impaired driving doesn't just include alcohol, some prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, other illegal drugs and marijuana can also land someone a DUI. First-time DUI charges can cost an average of $13,500 in fines and drivers could get their licenses suspended if convicted.

The checkpoint was conducted in joint partnership with other local law enforcement agencies and the California Office of Traffic Safety, which provided funding to MBPD by a grant in order to promote safe driving practices.
"Our 'Zero Tolerance' approach to enforcement sends a clear message to those who still don't heed the warning to designate a sober driver before celebrations begin. Simply put, 'If you are over the legal limit, you will be arrested,'" MBPD said.
Members of the public are encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they suspect someone is driving under the influence.
