AI Data Center Proposal Withdrawn After South Bay Residents Push Back: Report
The proposed facility would have required nearly 50 megawatts of electricity and thousands of gallons of water each day.
EL SEGUNDO, CA — A developer withdrew plans for a five-story artificial intelligence data center in El Segundo after more than 100 residents packed a city meeting to oppose the project, the Westside Current reported.
The proposed conversion of the Hyatt Place hotel would have required 49.5 megawatts of electricity, 5,423 gallons of water per day and 16 diesel backup generators, according to the outlet.
Residents raised concerns about utility capacity, noise, pollution and the limited notice provided before the hearing.

Developer representative Arjun Shokeen withdrew the application about three hours into the meeting, saying he had heard the community’s concerns. The city received a formal withdrawal notice the following day, the Westside Current reported.
