Bike Path Closed at 45th Street
A detour advises bicyclists to take Ocean Avenue during the temporary blockage of a strip of bike path beginning at 45th Street in Manhattan Beach that is under construction.
Work on the bike path began today in Manhattan Beach's northernmost end at 45th Street, according to information on the city of Manhattan Beach's Web site. Bicyclists coming from El Segundo are greeted with signs that point them to an inland route to avoid the stretch of path being worked on.
The inland route is primarily on Ocean Avenue, which runs parallel to the beachside bike path about one block up the hill.
Bikers today were seen opting to ride through the parking lot at El Porto instead of immediately going up the street at 45th and making a right turn onto Ocean.

Signs advising bikers to avoid the bike path and turn on Ocean Avenue instead of continuing down to the bike path are placed at Ocean Avenue on 45th Street. The signs note that the turn is for bikers and that cars can continue to make their way to the parking lot.
The Marvin Braude Bike Trail Rehabilitation spans from 45th Street to Neptune Avenue in Hermosa Beach. This first phase goes from 45th to 36th Street and is expected to be completed by Oct. 7.
