Blown Transformer Leaves Thousands in the Dark

About 5,000 customers were left without electricity in Manhattan Beach overnight.

Power was restored today to the last 250 Southern California Edison customers who were without service after a downed transformer triggered an outage that originally affected more than 5,000 of the utility’s clients.

The outage was reported about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at 11th Street and Poinsettia Avenue, Manhattan Beach police said.

Crews on Sunday night gradually restored power to all but 253 of a total of 5,644 customers who lost service. The rest were back on line by 10:45 this morning, utility spokesman Paul Nutter said.
